Harry Potter Walking Tour & St Paul’s review

Harry Potter tour review

My verdict: a five-hour day that spends roughly three hours on film locations around central London and then two hours inside St Paul’s on an included ticket. The cathedral link is genuine rather than bolted on. The listing shows 4.9, and behind that figure are exactly two ratings.

Two reviews, three years apart

Ricardo from Brazil left five stars in March 2026. A traveller from Germany left four stars in August 2023. That is the entire history of this listing on GetYourGuide. Two ratings separated by nearly three years cannot describe a guide, a route or a bad weather day, and I would ignore the badge completely and read the itinerary instead.

The St Paul’s connection is real

This is the part I expected to be a stretch and it is not. The geometric staircase in the cathedral’s South West Tower stood in for the Divination stairwell. So the two hours inside are not a filler stop tacked onto a film walk; they are the film location. You get standard sightseeing access with the included ticket, so the crypt, the quire and the rest of the interior are yours as well.

The route

It meets at Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross, in front of the stairs up to the Parcel Yard. Then the Harry Potter Shop for 20 minutes, Cecil Court for 10, House of Spells for 10, the Palace Theatre for 10, Goodwin’s Court for 15, Leicester Square for 20, Westminster for 30, Southwark for 15, London Bridge for 30, and St Paul’s for two hours. Small group, English, with food, drinks, hotel pick-up and tube fares all excluded.

What works

  • Two hours inside St Paul’s, which is a real visit rather than a look
  • Cathedral entry included in the tour price
  • The film link is factual: the South West Tower staircase
  • Small group with a live guide
  • Starts somewhere unmistakable, so nobody gets lost finding it

Worth knowing

  • Two reviews. The 4.9 is not a measurement of anything
  • Most walking stops are 10 to 20 minutes and several are exteriors
  • Tube fares are not included and the route crosses the river
  • No food or drinks over a five-hour day
  • English only
  • Two hours is not enough for the 528-step climb as well

Who it suits

Families with teenagers, which is the demographic this is plainly built for, and anyone who would rather approach a Wren cathedral sideways through a film set than head-on through the architecture. It also works as a way of covering a lot of central London on foot with a reason to keep going.

Who it does not suit

Anyone who wants the dome. Two hours inside sounds generous until you remember the galleries start at 257 steps and the last one is at 528, and you will arrive with three hours of pavement behind you. Read the dome climb page and decide honestly. It also does not suit visitors with no interest in the films, who will get more out of a straight guided walk or just the entry ticket.

What reviewers say

Nothing, because neither rating came with any text. Ricardo left five stars in March 2026 and the German traveller left four in August 2023, and that is the whole written record. There is no theme to draw and I am not going to manufacture one. The free cancellation window is doing more work here than the score is: if the itinerary reads well to you, the cost of finding out is a booking you can undo.

Insider tip

Wear the shoes you would wear for a long day, not the ones that match the scarf. Three hours of pavement then two hours of stone floor is harder on feet than it sounds, and what to wear covers the rest.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Harry Potter connection to St Paul’s Cathedral?

The geometric staircase in the South West Tower stood in for the Divination stairwell. That is why the cathedral is on the route rather than a convenient stop. See what to see inside for the rest of the building.

How long does the tour spend inside the cathedral?

About two hours of the five, with entry included. That is enough for the floor, the quire and the crypt, and not enough for the galleries. How long to visit explains the difference.

Are tube fares included?

No. Food, drinks, hotel pick-up and tube fares are all excluded, so carry a contactless card and expect to pay your own fares across the river.
